Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay 2008.
Andrew C has once again agreed to co-ordinate this event, and with 16 runners it can get very complicated.
Once again we have been very lucky and got 2 teams(This event is virtually closed to new teams as the maximum has been reached and no club with an allocation will revoke their entry).
It has been traditional to allocate one team to members who have supported this event over many years,I think it has been run 22 times and there at least 4 of us with over 20 appearances, and 2 of us have run every single one.(only 5 people have run every race).
The other team has the chance of restoring our honour and perhaps finishing in the first 20 teams. As Andrew has taken the responsibility of organising our entries,I think he should choose the team,so if you want to run be nice to Andrew and let him know.
Previous knowledge of the course is essential, even those who have done it many times are still finding little variations that trim the time. However for only the third time the race will be run backwards so all that experience has to be relearned, you really do take a different route when you go backwards.
Some details are to be found here, details,(assumes I can make a link to a file that Andrew e-mailed me). Also Andrew has taken his role seriously and prepared a spread sheet with possible times etc, click here,(usual assumptions about me being able to do the link, but also you probably need Microsoft office Excel to open it).Just tested this page and I think you get both files from either link.Tested on line and it does not work,so I will fix it at next update, all fixed and working now.
Been lazy and have just pasted Andrews e-mail
John,
Just to let you know I’m again sorting the Lonsdale entry to the Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay. I have sent off the entries for 2 teams of eight (open + vets). Same cost as last year: £6.25 per person, starts 10am on Sunday 5 October. Best get the date into peoples mind early!
Attached two docs, one is info from race organisers the other is the 2008 Lonsdale Team Sheet (still without names of course). My spreadsheet contains leg details and expected start/finish times.
I’ve tried putting together a do-able guidance expectation for the leg times, to help in handover time planning. This is based very roughly on last year’s times and the general expectation of open team = record +25%, vets = record +50%.
You can see that I am hoping we can field a strong Open Team, the 4h 45min would in 2007 have left us in 30 position ahead of preston, eden and such like. Tall ask though at 30 minutes faster than 2007… Anything under 5 hours should be acceptable I guess.
