New website

Time for a change

This site was built over a year ago using cheap and cheerful software which works well but is limited and a simple update, just changing say a few words on a page can take an hour to upload. It is almost impossible to get at the underlying code which makes it very limited.

The new site will be built using Dreamweaver, which is accepted as the best and used by nearly all professional site designers. Problem is I bought a book called "Learn Dreamweaver the quick and easy way" and it is 800 pages long,it also requires knowledge of HTML code which I am poor at,so I will use the other method of learning and just press buttons and see what happens.
This will result in a primitive site at first until I learn how to drive it. I will start with the next run page which is the only one everyone looks at and slowly get back to the present level. It will initially be a mash up using all the existing artwork and layout etc.

I would have changed earlier but up until recently Microsoft Internet explorer browser would only allow many of the new features to be used after flashing up dire warnings about "active X" possibly damaging your computer. This was all about a legal dispute and microsoft not willing to pay for some kind of license. If you are using an older form of "Internet Explorer" you should update to the latest "Click here". If you get the messages about preventing active x scripts etc then click OK to accept. My understanding is that the latest IE7 browser works fine without scaring you with warnings.

Alternatively use Firefox which is far superior, works well with no warnings and is rapidly gaining market share "Download Firefox 3" It is worth using it just to annoy Microsoft.

Don't know what happens with AOL and I don't do Macs, but I think they all should work with possibly some warnings. Let me know if it doesn't work.

Finally it is not a one way trip as the original site can be restored easily.
